Life does not owe you anything, it’s a privilege to live and breathe one breath….anything more than that is a gift, not a right.

It’s a sad day when a one of the blessed few get the honor of showing their talent on National TV, only to be very ungrateful and harbor such a sour attitude with resentment because they weren’t in the top ratings.  Since when is it someone’s ‘right’ to be on TV, to be a celebrity, to get the so-called “big break” or get paid generously for what they love to do?  What happened to the days where it was a blessing to have a good job, earn your living with the hard labor of the hands? What ever happened to paying for the meals on your table instead of standing on a corner with a sign? What happened to the times where it was satisfying to go to work and know you were supporting your family or yourself?  What happened to the respect and reverence of the elderly with the wisdom they carried no matter how old or grumpy they got? What happened to actually spending time with friends and family with a good conversation in person and not through using your fingers and typing little letters on a screen? What happened to being able to spank a spoiled child? What happened to children actually being raised by parents while not being left behind or forgotten? Since when is it a right to disregard others property, time and money for the right of your said cause no matter how just it is?  How is it ok to break one amendment for another? How is it ok, to taunt and probe into the faces and pockets of the law-abiding citizens by egging on retaliation, then to turn and point fingers, as if you had no part in it?  Are we all that ignorant to not see history repeating itself? To think that a protest will end in a good result under such circumstances or a peace march will in fact only be carried out in peace? What caused the decaying epidemic of this selfish self-righteousness entitled generation?

The Life values of the past have lost their way and have all since vanished.  I am not so sure the future is brighter.  Unfortunately, some things are truly better left in the past….

Attitude, stance, angle, frame of mind, frame of reference, approach, way of looking, interpretation… These are all ways of saying the same thing, that of perspective.

We all need it and can’t possible be striped of it, unless we all go robot like in another dimension. Perspective is what makes everyone so different or alike.  What makes Bobby see the world this way and Sue see it that way? Perspective.  What it all boils down to is that perspective matters a great deal.  There are many factors that make up ones perspective. Childhood, parenting styles, trials, thoughts, emotions, failures, triumphs, you name it, and it probably played a significant part in the total factor.  So what’s the point you ask?

My point is this, how we view the world matters. How you view your neighbor matters, how you view your children, coworkers, a stranger on the street, or the bag lady all matter.  Because in the end, how we view people is how we treat them. Plain and simple.  If you view them with any quality that adds something to your life and with regard, you treat them with such.  If you don’t then well it’s all the same, they are treated justly.  This is why perspective matters.

There is another interesting thing about perspective, it can be a choice. A choice on how you view any one thing regardless of your pervious factors. That is why it’s called a perspective, a point of view of any such belief, or an opinion. How will you choose to react or not react? How will this choice affect another, it’s all a chain reaction steaming from one point of reference, that of perspective.  Lets just hope its more in focus than out.

The drama of the human condition comes solely from consciousness.  Of course, consciousness and its revelations allow us to create a better life for self and others, but the price we pay for that better life is high.  Its is not just the price of risk and danger and pain. It is the price of knowing risk, danger, and pain.  Worse even: it is the price of knowing what pleasure is and knowing when it’s missing or unattainable.  “The drama of the human condition thus comes from consciousness because it concerns knowledge obtained in a bargain that none of us struck: The cost of a better existence is the loss of innocence about that very existence. The feeling of what happens is the answer to a question we never asked, and it is also the coin in a Faustian bargain that we could never have negotiated.”    -Antonio Damasio from his book’The Feeling of What Happens’

This makes me think, you can’t have what you aren’t willing to loose.  You know that classic statement about love. For us to ever experience anything worth attainable we have to be willing to loose it. And in so, if we remain naive and want to stay in our own denial of reality, we will never attain the cost of the better reality.  If we dwindle our reserves and swindle with the masses of the status quo, we then are willing to sacrifice anything to satisfy a limitless desire for knowledge or power. Thus comes the FALL…..
